Entry from the Central Park Scouts Guide on the “Ramble Arch” circa 1911:
“The journey to Ramble Arch is a venture into the hidden depths of Central Park, a scout’s pursuit of a treasure nestled within nature’s enclosure. Set forth from the West 77th Street gate, where the trail winds and turns through the Ramble’s maze of twisted roots and low-hanging boughs. Presently, the arch reveals itself: a sturdy portal of rugged stone, draped in moss, stretching across a narrow path that seems shaped by the hand of time itself. Step beneath its humble span, the sound of your tread a brief echo in the stillness, and pass through to where rays of sunlight break through the leafy roof above. The triumph of this adventure lies not in reaching a lofty peak, but in the crossing itself.”
